Silvermine Academy started using Exam Portal in 2023 for our internal assessments and NSC exams. As a small and inclusive school, managing in-person accommodations became a huge logistical problem. The switch to Portal made a difference to our exam organisation, venues, and the confidence of our students. It allows us to have multiple scribe and reader students in one venue — or in some cases, in the main venue.
Besides the logistical benefits, we have also noticed an impact on the self-sufficiency of our students. The program gives them complete control over how they are supported through their exam papers. They can choose the volume, speed, repetition, and language of their reader. This means that students learn to leverage technology as a support instead of a crutch.
